I've had chronic back problems since trying to learn how to snowboard 13 years ago – a steroid shot helped but isn't something that can happen all the time, physical therapy has been hit-or-miss, and opioids made me pretty stupid, so I'm on a lot of Advil. A LOT of Advil.

On a whim, I stopped at Botanica in Evanston, a curator of high-quality CBD products, and picked up a few things to try.

Why do you care, you may be wondering? Because I also found on Botanica's shelves Danodan's Hemp Flower CBD Shot, which is basically a glycerin-based hemp extract for mixing into beverages. Like cocktails.

It tastes like pot, for those who like that sort of thing, with the saccharine flavor of glycerin underneath. It's pretty distinctive, and while I'd be hard-pressed to say I like it on its own, it is a very interesting flavor to work with.

Because it's the middle of the day and I have stuff to do, I decided to go the non-alcoholic route and pulled out my bottle of Seedlip Garden 108, which has peas and hay from the English countryside among its ingredients, along with my last bottle of Ginger Vanilla Wolfberry simple syrup from The Wolfberry Commission.

The Gentle Gardener

2 oz Seedlip Garden 108
1 oz Ginger Vanilla Wolfberry simple syrup
1 ml Danodan Hemp Flower CBD Shot
soda
ice
garnish – I didn't have anything on hand but plan to try a Meyer lemon slice and a fresh sage leaf.

Fill a Tom Collins glass with ice. Pour Garden 108 and simple syrup over ice, use the dropper to add Hemp Flower CBD Shot, and stir to combine.  Top with soda and add your garnish.
